Black Gold Peat Moss (2.2 Cu Ft)

Black Gold Peat Moss (2.2 Cu Ft)

Great for Acid-Loving Plants

Harvested from sphagnum peat beds in Manitoba; peat moss holds water, provides aeration, nutrient exchange sites and decomposes slowly. It is often used as a mulch over a newly seeded lawn, etc. or as an ingredient in potting soil or soilless mixes.
  • Use with a mix of potting soil for blueberries
  • pH 3.5-4.5
  • Does not contain wetting agents.
  • Improves water holding capacity of soils

There has been a lot in gardening news lately about going peat-free and that peatlands are critically endangered. This applies to European peatlands only. Peatlands in Canada are abundant and very carefully managed to ensure that far more peat accumulates each year than is harvested.

In addition, harvesting occurs for several years over the same site, usually to a depth of 25 feet or more.

Great for peats sake 🤪

This was my first time using peat moss.
I planted 1/4 acre of wild flowers and I used this peat moss to cover and keep the soul moist. It’s been three weeks and my seeds are coming up and looking good.

Tortoise substrate

I am a keeper of unique and hard to find tortoises of the world. I have used Sunshine brand peat moss as a base mix for my tortoise enclosures for many years. A reliable product that holds moisture very well to help keep my hatchlings and young hydrated promoting the smooth carapace needed for proper health of a tortoise. And with the added bonus of naturally higher acid, I need not worry about molds that grow in many damp enclosures. I will continue to use Sunshine brand peat moss as long as it available for me to use.

Blueberries Love Peat moss

My blueberries were literally dying in our crummy foothill soil. I rescued them and potted them in smart pots with a 50/50 mixture of organic potting soil and Sunshine peat moss and now they are thriving and producing more than enough to supply me with blueberries for my morning muffins.
